Global System for Mobile

GSM or Group Special Mobile or The Global System for Mobile, is digital cellular telecommunication network standard which was developed by European countries. GSM cellular system is the standard that adopted more than 200 countries and used by over 2 billions.

The advantage of GSM systems than analog systems have been higher digital voice quality and low cost alternatives to making calls such as text messaging. The advantage for operators is the ability to deploy equipment from different vendors because the open standard.
GSM operators offer roaming feature for its customer which mean that subscribers can use their phones all over the world.
New GSM standard provided packet data capabilities (GPRS/2.5G) and than recently GSM operators offer 3G feature for its customer which means that GSM offer higher speed data access.
